Aboriginal Services Directory

At a time when many Aboriginal families and communities already live in poverty and community agencies are being asked to do more with less Provincial government funding; Aboriginal agencies must work harder than ever to increase awareness of services available to, and required by, urban Aboriginal communities.

The 1st annual Aboriginal Agency fair (AAF) held on October 30, 2003 brought together over 30 Aboriginal agencies providing health, education, multimedia, housing, justice and child and family support services available to Aboriginal people living in the Capital Region.  Over 400 people attended the AAF to share or gather information, establish or renew networks, participate in specific agency presentations, enjoy cultural performances by the Yellow Wolf Drum Group and Esquimalt Dancers and share a meal together.

One outcome of the AAF was the Victoria Aboriginal Services Directory 2003-04.  It was a gift to all participating agencies and those providing services to Aboriginal peoples living in the Capital Region.  Today, a revised version of this resource, the Vancouver Island Aboriginal Services Directory 2007-08 is available in the community.

Surrounded By Cedar Child and Family Services would like to extend out sincere gratitude to the Native Courtworker and Counselling Association of British Columbia for supporting an updated version of this directory.

We want to recognize our friend, Roseann Jones for working as a practicum student to update the Aboriginal Resource Booklet May –June, 2007, and also our Resource Worker, Corrina Neuwirth for putting it together.

This directory was created for both Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal service providers and caregivers of Aboriginal children and youth on Vancouver Island. It is a gift to all who work everyday to build a better future for Aboriginal children and families in BC.

This directory does not attempt to duplicate other Victoria Capital Region, provincial or Vancouver Island based resource or business directories. This directory was developed upon request of caregivers of Aboriginal children and youth in care of the Ministry of Children and Family Development. The information is intended to be a useful guide. Some Vancouver Island Aboriginal agencies and programs may have been missed in this publication. Surrounded By Cedar does not necessarily recommend or represent agencies and First Nations identified.

Limited hard copies of this directory are available. You can contact Surrounded By Cedar Child and Family Services to purchase one for $5.35 plus shipping costs if necessary, or download your own copy:
